Building Stewart World Port
Stewart World Port is a multi-purpose port designed to support industrial development in the Golden Triangle of northwestern British Columbia. The port was created to streamline the import of construction equipment and materials for mines, export mineral concentrates, and provide backhaul mining resupply throughout the production phase.
By establishing this hub, SWP opened a new pathway for large-scale industrial and project cargo, including wind blades and towers, mining equipment, oil & gas equipment, transformers, and all types of project cargo. Construction of the port was completed in 2015, with the first port call taking place in February 2016.
Strengthening Supply Chains
Creating New Horizons
Historically, oversized cargo destined for British Columbia was often imported through U.S. ports and then trucked north. SWP changed that. Notable projects have included handling wind project cargo with 59m blades – marking the first time wind projects in BC could be imported directly through a local port. These developments have strengthened industrial supply chains and enabled more efficient project timelines across the region.
Investing in the Local Economy
Stewart World Port plays a key role in the local economy. It is the highest property taxpayer in Stewart, BC, and a significant source of local employment. The port’s operations provide long-term career opportunities in logistics, port management, and industrial handling, helping to support families and build community resilience. We’re proud to be part of this community.
