Expanding Capabilities
Enhancing Export Capacity
Stewart World Port has secured a $13.1 million grant from the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) to construct a state-of-the-art bulk loading system. This system will be capable of handling up to 2,000 tons per hour, positioning Stewart World Port to manage both current and future mining commodities with ease.
While we currently handle cement powder, the new system will allow for the loading of copper, gold, silver, zinc, lead, limestone, and other bulk commodities produced in the Golden Triangle. By expanding our bulk handling capabilities, we’re not just increasing efficiency—we’re opening the door for more mining projects to ship directly from BC, reducing reliance on cross-border logistics and streamlining supply chains for industrial clients.
Rail Connectivity
Unlocking New Possibilities
Currently, Stewart is not connected to rail, limiting options for large-scale transport inland. Our team is actively exploring the feasibility of extending rail infrastructure to the port. A rail connection would dramatically enhance Stewart World Port’s ability to move bulk commodities and heavy project cargo efficiently and cost-effectively, providing a critical link for the region’s growing industrial sector.
Rail would complement our existing infrastructure and create a more versatile, multimodal transportation hub. This expansion aligns with our vision of making Stewart a key gateway for project cargo, mining supplies, and all other commodities across Western Canada.
Future Growth
A Strategic Vision
These expansions are part of a larger plan to position Stewart World Port as a long-term, multi-purpose port solution. By investing in bulk handling and exploring rail integration, we are building a foundation for sustainable growth, creating local employment opportunities, and ensuring that the Golden Triangle’s industrial projects have reliable access to world-class infrastructure.
Stewart World Port’s expansion projects reflect a proactive approach to supporting industry needs while maintaining our commitment to the community and regional economy. Every ton we move and every connection we create strengthens Stewart’s role as a vital hub for northern British Columbia’s growth.
